We run two hour photography sessions based on a photography theme/technique/style and they take place in various locations across the region.
New to photography? We also run a popular 3 hour Beginners Guide to Photography Class once a month.
And once in a while we will run special niche 3 hour classes, for example, Astrophotography - so do subscribe to our newsletter to know when the next on is!

Who can attend? Open to all skill levels, from beginners to keen amateurs. The photography instructor is there to help you with camera settings and provide any advice you need.

What to bring? We recommend bringing a camera that has full manual mode or semi-manual modes (Aperture or Shutter Priority). Compact cameras and smartphones also welcome!

The meeting point and full details for the day are sent in the booking confirmation email to the email address you provide at time of booking.

Your experience doesnít stop once the class ends - you can also share your photos with your peers in the Edinburgh Photography Facebook Group

Drone Taster Session - Blackford Hill, Edinburgh - 10am - 2 hours
Drone and Aerial photography is increasingly becoming more affordable and accessible for hobbyist photographers. Scotland has some beautiful scenery that lends itself well to drone photography, and having this new perspective can really help add to your creativity.

This session is for photographers and beginners who are interested in trying a drone and just want to see some of the possibilities it offers both stills photography and video.

I am a CAA registered / qualified drone operator and this session will include safety and CAA requirement training, basic flying training and hopefully 10-15 minutes each of flying a DJI Mavic Pro 2 drone near Edinburgh.

Please don't worry about crashing or losing the drone - this is unlikely to happen with the skills taught!

For safety reasons we will be using just one drone so this class has an absolute maximum of 5 attendees.

Seascape - Intimate Landscapes at Gullane Beach Meetup - Gullane Beach, Gullane, East Lothian - 10:00 AM - 2 Hours
Gullane Beach is renowned for some amazing geological formations which showcase fantastic colors, patterns, and textures in the coastal sandstone and sedimentary rocks.

This session will look at the intimate landscapes that can be shot in such a location. If students wish to use some filters - such as ND filters to capture wave movement - we will also cover how to use filters for seascape photography. This should be a gentle introduction to seascapes and intimate landscape photography, suitable for all.

Beginners Guide to Photography - Getting Started Class - Stockbridge, Edinburgh - 10:00 AM to 01:00 PM - 3 Hours
The complete Photography 101 session intended to get you up and running with your DSLR or Mirrorless camera.
We cover all the basics from getting to know your camera, how the camera works and the basic functions, then understanding ISO, shutter speed and aperture, lens choice, focal lengths, focusing, and some basic 'rules' of composition.

A popular session, we start along the Water of Leith, then practice aperture in the Botanic Gardens before moving on to practice focusing and shutter speed with some dog portraiture and photography in Inverleith Park.

Suitable for complete beginners who want a grounding in how to get off 'Auto' mode. I love teaching beginners so even if you have never turned on your camera, please know you are welcome!

Sunset Photography by the Forth Bridges Meetup - South Queensferry - 07:00 PM to 09:00 PM - 2 Hours
A session looking to capture the sunset under the Forth Bridges. We will concentrate on the Forth Rail Bridge, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

As this is Scotland, there is a possibility that the weather may not give us the beautiful sunset we crave, so we will also look at low light photography techniques, such as shooting light trails.

A sociable session is suitable for everyone.

First time Iíve ever went on a course. Virginia was excellent, very friendly and happy to answer any questions. As someone who shoots on Auto 99.9% of the time, I came away with the confidence to switch to manual. Thank you

Great, apart from the weather. Virginia had researched the area beforehand so we didnít have to search for the birds. I was also very grateful for use of her lens for the session. I look forwards to the next session.

This is the first event of this type I have attended and was really nervous. The host Lara really put me at ease and was great throughout the morning. It was great that there was only 3 of us, Lara was able to split her time most generously between us all. A great price, not prohibitive at all.
